The US has announced a new $425 million military aid package for Ukraine, as President Joe Biden seeks to boost security assistance to Kiev before his term ends and may be succeeded by Donald Trump.
The new package includes air defense capabilities, air-to-ground munitions, armored vehicles and other critical munitions, Biden told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in a phone call on Wednesday. The money comes from the more than $60 billion set aside for Ukraine as part of a military aid package passed by lawmakers earlier this year.
In the coming months, the US will also provide Ukraine with “hundreds of air defense interceptors, dozens of tactical air defense systems, additional artillery systems, significant quantities of ammunition, hundreds of armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, and thousands of additional armored vehicles.” ,” the White House said.
