Following the apparent second assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, the Chicago Police Department has turned its attention to the Trump International Hotel and Tower in downtown Chicago.

A spokeswoman for the Chicago Police Department said the agency would not release the exact number of patrols, but acknowledged that “special attention is being paid to Trump’s flagship property in Illinois with appropriate resources.”

Security has also been beefed up at Mar-a-Lago, but the day after a man was arrested at Trump’s Palm Beach golf course, it’s unclear if additional security measures have been taken at the former president’s golf courses, hotels and residential towers across the country. .

POLITICO reached out to nine properties in five states — and most did not request comment or said security levels had not changed. Uncertainty about additional security protocols at companies owned by Trump — and often frequented by himself — is an important data point in the conversation about whether he should have increased security, given recent threats to his life.

The Secret Service, which came under fire for its handling of the first assassination attempt against Trump at a rally in July, is working with local law enforcement agencies to implement security plans to protect the nation’s top political leaders.

In New York City, the NYPD had a visible presence around Trump Tower on Monday morning, with several marked police vehicles parked along the perimeter of the skyscraper and uniformed officers at the entrance. However, pedestrians and tourists were allowed to walk past it and take photos at the entrance as usual.

In Rancho Palos Verdes, the city where the Trump National Golf Club is located and where Trump held a news conference on Friday, the Los Angeles County Sheriff did not increase security.

Requests to NYPD spokesmen for enhanced or heightened security at Trump Tower and other New York properties were not returned. Requests to Trump Organization attorney Alan Garten were also not returned.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff, who oversees law enforcement in Rancho Palos Verdes, the city where Trump National Golf Club is located, did not increase security. Trump held a press conference at the course on Friday. The watch commander at the sheriff’s station in Lomita told POLITICO that neither the club nor the Secret Service requested additional measures. The club’s general manager did not return calls seeking comment.

A spokesman for Bedminster Police said: “We are simply unable to comment on anything about security in or around the property.”

Requests for comment at Trump’s properties in Nevada, Virginia, Florida and Washington, DC were not returned.

Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe Jr. defended Trump’s level of security at a press conference Monday as the president took an “off-the-record” round of golf, meaning the former president’s schedule was not finalized. public.

“What we did yesterday was execute our contingency plan based on the number of tactical assets and the highest level of protection we have,” Rowe said.

Following the assassination of Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania in July, Rowe said he ordered a “paradigm shift” that was in effect Sunday when Secret Service officials spotted an armed man along the Mar-a-Lago golf course.

“But the way we’re situated right now in this dynamic threat environment, it’s given me the guidance to say, you know what, we’ve got to look at what our defense methodology is,” he said.
