India’s industrial production contracted by 0.1 percent in August, mainly due to poor performance in the mining and power generation sectors, according to official data released on Friday. Industrial production, measured in terms of the Industrial Production Index (IIP), grew by 10.9 percent in August 2023. The three main components of the IIP, including mining, industry manufacturing and electricity, experienced a contraction of 4.2 percent, growth of 1 percent and a contraction of 3.7 percent, respectively.
